We descended into Hell and rose into Light

Thursday we had a lecture in the morning. In the afternoon three of us returned to Bethlehem… we’ve got the taxi drivers sorted there! No rip-offs! In the evening we went into the city for dinner using Steve’s anniversary as the excuse. We had dinner in Hell – or rather the location of Gehenna which in Jesus time was the Jerusalem City rubbish dump and the image of Hell he used…

If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell (Gehenna), to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell (Gehenna), where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched. (Mark 9:43-48)

So that’s where we went for dinner!

He will place the sheep on his right...

...and the goats on his left (Matthew 25:33)

After which some of us went to the Old City to something of the Jerusalem Festival of Light, an annual event. It was really great, lots of family and a lovely atmosphere. Though, we haven’t got the Israeli taxi drivers sorted!

These ones were called Faces of Jerusalem and the face kept changing... these are only a few
